Y-DNA Genetics

I. My branch of the Pearsall Family is Haplogroup I (M170)

Haplogroup I is distributed widely across Europe, but appearing rarely.  Haplogroup I probably was one of the first to migrate to Europe – probably about 30,000 years ago.  It appears slightly more often in northern and western Europe, but also in Egypt and Arabia.

Concentrations of Haplogroup I, is widespread throughout southeastern and central Europe and most common in the Balkans and Scandinavia.  Members of this haplogroup carry a 30,000-year-old marker dubbed M170.

This Y chromosome marker first appeared in the Middle East.  Its subsequent spread into southeastern Europe may have accompanied the expansion of the prosperous Gravettian culture.

The later spread of this lineage could be also tied to the mid-first millennium B.C. Celtic culture.

Following report contains maps showing dispersal of Haplogroup I/M170 in Europe (see below).  Also below is a map which shows Haplo-I frequencies throughout the world:

Haplotype I1b (Nordic): This line was derived within Viking / Scandinavian populations in northwest Europe and has since spread down into southern Europe where it is present at low frequencies.
